I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is ABLE to guard until that Day what has been entrusted to Him. (2 Timothy 1:12)
He is ABLE to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think. (Ephesians 3:20)
He is ABLE to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. (2 Corinthians 9:8)
He is ABLE to help those who are being tempted. (Hebrews 2:18)
He is ABLE to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them. (Hebrews 7:25)
He is ABLE to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy. (Jude 24)
Who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enABLEs him even to subject all things to himself. (Philippians 3:21)
“Do you believe that I am ABLE to do this?”… “Yes, Lord.” “According to your faith be it done to you.” (Matthew 9:28-29)
We know God’s promises. We know how He has revealed Himself through Jesus Christ. We sing songs about our Great God, and how He loves us.
Our God is ABLE.
And yet how often are our lives characterized not by confidence in His ability, but by…
Worry. Fear. Insecurity. Control. Anxiety, Anger. Discouragement. Doubt. Why?
We know Him, but we don’t believe Him.
I am convinced that our great enemy is UNBELIEF.
We live in worry, fear, insecurity, control, anxiety, anger, discouragement and doubt because we don’t trust God.
Just to be clear: I don’t mean we’re not “saved”, that we’re not children of God. But we believers need to learn to BELIEVE. Trusting God is not just something I did in order to become a Christian and benefit from what Jesus did for me on the cross. Trusting God is a choice I need to make every minute, every hour, every day.
Over the next few months, I am leading the most precious group of women on a journey into TRUTH. My goal is not that we’d learn more about God, but that we’d begin to live out what we believe. I’ve taught this study twice now with college women, and it was amazing to watch them lay foundations for a life of trusting God. But I’ve been craving doing this with women across generations – and that desire is being met. Married and single, from twenty-somethings to women in their seventies who have to be sure they’re sitting with their hearing aids facing me. I am so happy, and eager to learn from them.
It is my hope that we can move from knowing truth to applying it to our lives. I long for us to begin to believe the truths on the pages of our Bible study so deeply that we LIVE like they are true.
